Learn how to set up our Google Chat integration quickly and easily!

Updated over 2 months ago

This article is best for:

- Admin users

- Connect Accounts

In this article, you will learn how to add the Bonusly bot to Google Chat (formerly Hangouts Chat) and remove it from Google Chat. When you add the Bonusly bot to Google Chat, it will announce new recognition posts and allow you to give recognition!

Note: Your organization will need Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) for the bot feature to be available.

Adding the Bonusly bot to Google Chat

To set up the Google Chat Bonusly integration, go to chat.google.com and select the Space you want the Bonusly bot to be active in. In this case, we're adding it to our "people_recognition" space.

Click the drop-down arrow next to your space name. Then click Apps & integrations in the menu.

Next, click Add apps, type "Bonusly," click "Enter," then press the "Add" button:

Google Chat confirms the app is added.

And you can confirm the integration is connected through Bonusly, too. Visit https://bonus.ly/company/integrations/hangouts_chat_integrations. You'll see a page like this:

Removing the Bonusly bot

Ok, it's time to give the app the boot. Cool. Go to https://bonus.ly/company/integrations/hangouts_chat_integrations and remove the "integration."

Ok. Now remove it from Google Chat, too. Go to https://chat.google.com, click the space where the app was installed (in our case, "people_recognition"), and remove the app there.

The Bonusly bot will stop posting and you won't be able to bring up the bot to ask for help or give recognition in that room (boo).

What does the app actually do?
