Before you start…
Make sure you have deleted the old MS Teams Bonusly App. Instructions for this can be found here. As a quick gut check, your new MS Teams Bonusly App is named “Bonus.ly”.
The MS Teams Admin adding the Bonus.ly app must also have Tech Admin Permission within Bonusly.
Introduction
We recommend installing the Bonus.ly MS Teams app in the following order
Within the Teams Admin Center, add the app and grant admin consent
Within the MS Teams App, prep teams & channels you’d like Bonusly to appear in, then add the Bonus.ly app to each team and channel
Within the Bonusly’s Admin Dashboard, activate the bot
Part 1: Within the Teams Admin Center, add the app and grant admin consent
For the smoothest experience (avoiding additional permission requests and auto pinning the app to the side bar for all employees) we recommend that a Teams Administrator grant admin consent. This can be done from the Teams Admin Center followng the below steps:
Navigate to the Teams Apps → Manage Apps page
Search for Bonus.ly in the list
Select Bonus.ly to load its app page
Navigate to Permissions
Locate the “Grant admin consent” button in the yellow bar
Follow the Teams App prompts to complete this action
Pin the Bonusly App to the left side panel for all users
Part 2: Within the MS Teams App, set up teams and channels, then add the Bonus.ly App.
Recognition channels in MS Teams should display relevant recognition posts. One company-wide channel may work well for smaller organizations. For larger organizations, we recommend adding a dedicated, moderated recognition channel to each existing or newly created team.
When creating a channel, we recommend you set the channel as moderated so that the channel acts as a posting channel where users can not reply to each post.
Adding Bonus.ly App to Channels
Reminder: On the first time, the installer must have an active Bonusly account with Tech Admin permission. After, anyone with permission to add apps to channels can follow the below steps.
Once your Teams and Channels have been created, add the Bonus.ly bot to each dedicated recognition channel by:
From either the Teams Apps menu or the app menu for a specific Team click the Add / Open button on the app
From the menu that appears select the Team and Channel you want to use as the recognition feed, and press the Go button.
You may need to search to find it as not all channels appear in the initial list.
You will be taken to the selected channel. After a few moments, the Bonusly app will be added to the selected channel and you will receive a personal confirmation message from the integration.
Repeat the above for all teams and respective recognition channels you would like to create a recognition feed for.
Important Notes:
You can see all team’s recognition channels that have the Bonus.ly app within the Bonusly web-app Settings page (Manage admin settings -> Company -> Integrations -> Microsoft Teams Integration)
No messages will be sent to channels or employees in these teams until the integration has been activated.
Part 3: Within the Bonusly’s Admin Dashboard, activate the bot
When you are ready to launch the integration for your employees you can follow the below steps.
Once activated a few things will happen:
Employees in any of the teams listed on this admin screen will receive personal messages welcoming them to Bonusly in MS Teams, and a help message explaining how they can use it. (If an employee is in more than one team they will receive only one set of these messages.)
Activity happening in Bonusly will begin posting to the recognition channel(s) that have been configured.
Any time a new employee is added to a connected team, or the Bonusly app is added to a new team, all users that have not previously received the personal messages will be sent one.
Activation Steps:
Go to your Bonusly admin dashboard. Click Company on the left-hand sidebar and then click Integrations.
Click the Microsoft Teams integration box.
Click the Activate Channels button.
