Participation Report

Get a clear view of participation across your organization, helping you track engagement for managers and their teams.

We've introduced a new monthly report that gives admins a clear view of participation across their organization. This report helps you track how departments, teams, and individual managers are engaging, and see how that participation changes over time.

You can select and compare data from any month in the last two years, sort the information to suit your needs, and export a CSV file for further analysis.

Navigating to the Participation Report

Global and Reports admins can easily access this report from the admin dashboard.

  1. Click on Reports in the main admin toolbar.

  2. Select the Participation link from the reports menu.

You will now be able to view the participation report and toggle between views.

Note: If you do not see Participation under Reports, your plan may not include expanded reporting or you may not have the required admin access. Ask a Global Admin to confirm your permissions and plan features.

Giving & Receiving View

This report helps you measure and understand how your groups (departments, locations, roles) are using Bonusly. This report answers key questions like:

  • Which groups have the highest (or lowest) participation?

  • What are the differences in participation rates across our groups?

  • How has participation for each group changed over time?

  • How does a specific department's participation compare to the rest of the company?

  • How does our company's engagement stack up against other companies?

Admin can segment Giving & Receiving and Managers & Teams by any custom property they have listed in their user data. Select a group using the dropdown menu at the top of the page in the Group by field.

Here's a breakdown of the key features and how your data is displayed.

Single month view

When you select one month in the date picker (for example, Jul 2026), the report shows totals and rates for that month. These are the columns you'll see:

  • Users: Total users in the group during the selected month. This includes users who joined or were deactivated during the month.

  • Participation: Percentage of users in each group who gave or received recognition during the month. This includes add-ons, comments, awards, celebrations, and incentives.

  • Users giving P2P: Percentage of users who gave peer-to-peer recognition via posts, add-ons, and comments. Awards are not included.

  • Users receiving: Percentage of users who received recognition during the month, including peer-to-peer posts, add-ons, comments, awards, celebrations, or claimed incentives.

  • Participation 1mo change: Month-over-month change in participation rate compared to the previous month.

  • Participation trend previous 12mo: Monthly participation percentages from the last 12 months. Export this report to see the data reflected in this column.

  • Recognition given P2P: The count of peer-to-peer recognitions given during the selected month, including posts, add-ons, and comments.

  • Recognition received: Total number of recognitions received during the month, including posts, add-ons, comments, awards, celebrations, and claimed incentives.

  • Avg giving rate P2P: Average number of peer-to-peer recognitions given per user during the month.

  • Avg receiving rate: Average number of recognitions received per user during the month.

When you select multiple months

When you select a date range of two or more months (for example, Aug 2025 – Jul 2026), several column headers change. The columns now show monthly averages across the selected period instead of totals for a single month.

Here is how the column names change:

  • Users becomes Avg users — monthly average of users in the group.

  • Participation becomes Avg participation — monthly average participation percentage.

  • Users giving P2P becomes Avg users giving P2P — monthly average percentage of users giving peer-to-peer recognition.

  • Users receiving becomes Avg users receiving — monthly average percentage of users receiving recognition.

  • Participation 1mo change becomes Participation 12mo change — percentage point change in participation rate over the selected period.

  • Recognition given P2P becomes Avg recognition given P2P — the monthly average of peer-to-peer recognitions given in the selected group, including posts, add-ons, and comments. When multiple months are selected, this is the monthly average. For example, a value of 18,858 over a 12-month range means that group gave about 18,858 peer-to-peer recognitions per month on average — not 18,858 total for the entire year.

  • Recognition received becomes Avg recognition received — monthly average of recognitions received. When multiple months are selected, this is the monthly average.

  • Avg giving rate P2P and Avg receiving rate — these columns appear in both views and show monthly average rates.

Participation trend previous 12mo appears in both single-month and multi-month views and works the same way in each.

Tip: If a column name starts with "Avg," you are viewing a date range of multiple months. Select a single month in the date picker to see totals instead of monthly averages.

Viewing and Exporting a Detailed Trend Chart

  1. From the Giving & Receiving report, find the department you want to analyze.

  2. In the Participation trend previous 12mo column, click the expand chart button.

Manager & Teams View

The Managers & Teams report is designed to help you analyze how managers are engaging with their teams in Bonusly. This report answers key questions like:

  • How involved are my managers in giving recognition?

  • Which managers are not recognizing their entire team?

Note: For Managers & Teams, users must have a manager email attached.

Here's a breakdown of the key features and how your data is displayed:

  • Managers: Number of managers listed in this department, as of the last day of the last month selected.

Note: If you're a new user and don't yet have a full calendar month of data, the date picker will be disabled until enough data is available.
