Integrating Bonusly with Gusto

You can automate the management of Bonusly user accounts by integrating with Gusto! (Must be a Bonusly Pro Plan user.) Once you integrate, you’ll be able to set your permission details, then sync your Gusto employee roster to Bonusly. 🎉

First, make sure that you are signed into your Gusto and Bonusly accounts. In order to set up the integration, you will need to be an admin in both accounts. Learn more about setting Bonusly admin permissions in this article.

Then head over to the Bonusly integration page. Scroll down until you see the Gusto integration icon and click it!

Our Gusto integration allows you to create a Gusto account. If you need a walkthrough on how to do that, skip to our FAQ at the bottom of the page. Already a Gusto user? Read on! ✨

Once you’ve clicked the Gusto icon, a new page will open up for you to authorize Bonusly to access your company’s Gusto information.

After you’ve authorized, you’ll see a new screen with your Gusto integration options. Ensure that “automatically activate” is NOT checked, unless you want to immediately activate all your employees on Bonusly.

Employee data should have been migrated over when you authorized the integration, but feel free to click the “Refresh from Gusto now” sync button if you want to make doubly sure.

Once you’ve completed this step, skip over to the Imported Users page in your Admin panel and click “Configure Activation Rules.”

Check the boxes for the employee conditions that you wish to sync with Bonusly.

If there are any new employees you wish to activate with Bonusly right away, you can also do that from your Imported Users page.

Once that’s done, go back to the Integrations page and click on Gusto. Then edit the integration, and enable "Auto Activate". Click save.

From then on, any new employees that match your employee condition rules will be auto-synced into Bonusly. Any changes to employee info will be synced to Bonusly. And any employees who are terminated will be auto-deactivated in Bonusly. 🙌

What is "Auto Activate"?

Enabling auto-activate means that anytime a new employee is added to Gusto, they'll automatically be added to Bonusly. By default, this is off, so that you can connect to Gusto and test things out before adding all your employees.

Most customers enable "Auto Activate" once they're ready to roll out Bonusly to the whole company.

What data is included in the sync with Bonusly?

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Department

  • Job Title

  • Work Email

  • Manager Email

  • Location

  • Hire Date (Month/Day/Year)

  • Birth Day (Month/Day only)

This sync occurs nightly between 00:00 and 01:00 UTC. Note that the syncing of data for this integration flows from Gusto into Bonusly and so all updates to the syncing fields must be made in Gusto. (Changes made directly within Bonusly to the shared syncing fields will not automatically update in Gusto.)

What if I don’t have a Gusto account?

Our Gusto integration allows you to create a Gusto account. Simply click on the “Click here” button after you select Gusto on our Integration page.

Fill out the fields in the “Create Gusto Account” pop-up and then click” claim your Gusto account!

From there you’ll see an option from Gusto to “Create with email.” Click it and then you’re done! 🎉
